Kerry Washington Shares the Story Behind her New Book, 'Thicker than Water’
Beyond the Pages with Kerry Washington: Unveiling 'Thicker than Water'
I don’t know how I got so lucky as to have the chance to sit down with the talented Kerry Washington and discuss her new memoir, “Thicker than Water,” a personal story of truth, family, and finding her identity that has become an instant bestseller.
In our interview, Kerry shares one of her favorite rituals, sending a gift to her parents every year on her birthday as a way of showing her appreciation. “The credit goes to the wrong person on somebody’s birthday,” she says. “You didn’t do the heavy lifting - your parents brought you into the world!”
After Kerry’s parents revealed a family secret that rocked her sense of self and identity, this ritual offered an opportunity for healing. From then on, that gesture took on so much more meaning because it affirmed their relationship was important to her above all else.
Rituals are one of the most powerful and meaningful ways we can express ourselves. Whether they are to celebrate the holidays, a life event, or a relationship, rituals bring us closer together and help us find comfort throughout the year.
We’re incredibly inspired by Kerry’s honesty and community-centric attitude, and I’m honored that she took the time to open up about her life and her memoir on this week’s Celebrations Chatter.
Tune in to hear her share more family rituals, her philosophy on life, her views on technology, and the exciting world of entertainment.
Best,
Jim McCann
