Unveiling Inner Strength: A Conversation on Personal Growth and Resilience with George S. Everly, Jr.
Exploring the Psychology of Personal Growth and Resilience with George S. Everly, Jr.
Navigating the holiday season can be stressful, but the gift of giving brings multiple benefits. I recently had the privilege of officially meeting my COVID buddy, Dr. George S. Everly, Jr., and it was worth every moment of ruining our Zoom relationship. I invited George to speak at a gathering for our organization's leaders to explore the mission behind our brands: that giving is the gift.
George is truly remarkable, serving on the faculties of The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. With 27 books under his belt, he's an expert in stress, psychological crisis intervention, disaster mental health, and human resilience. George has used his expertise to delve into the intricacies of human experiences and has become a sought-after authority in the field of psychology, traveling to over 25 countries to lecture on and research the mental aspects of experiencing a disaster. His work in PTSD is hallmarked by the development of a psychological first-aid kit for those who have experienced trauma, with his Coursera course on the subject ranking as the 13th most-viewed online course in history.
Beyond his academic achievements, George has been an Olympic weightlifting trainer and an accomplished musician, playing in backing bands for Gladys Knight and Otis Redding. His eclectic career and journey from a struggling undergraduate to earning multiple degrees uniquely positions him to speak on true personal growth.
Getting to know George has enriched my life with wisdom and insights. Our conversations always leave me with new perspectives, making me eager to share his wisdom with our teams and community in this week’s Celebrations Chatter.
