Rackets, Radio, and Resilience: John McConnell’s Life in Tennis, Broadcast, and Philanthropy

Game, Set, Match: The Remarkable Journey of John McConnell

Rackets, Radio, and Resilience: John McConnell’s Life in Tennis, Broadcast, and Philanthropy

One theme that runs through so many of the guests that we feature on Celebrations Chatter is their resilience. I’ve had the privilege to sit down with many individuals who have faced adversity head on making it out the other side through sheer fortitude, willpower, bravery, and support from their loved ones to emerge stronger. By sharing these stories forward, I hope listeners leave these conversations inspired, motivated, and empowered, just like I do.

One of the most impactful tales of resilience I've encountered recently is that of John McConnell. John is a radio industry veteran and talent agent who has created and collaborated with many of broadcast’s biggest stars over the course of his career. However, it was a life-altering neck injury that steered John towards his most profound work in the world of philanthropy. Only a year after a bike accident that left many thinking that John may never walk again, he miraculously recovered and ran the NYC Marathon in honor of The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to inspire hope and raise money for others who have faced spinal cord injuries. He has since gone on to become the Reeve Foundation’s Vice Chairman, helping to advance their mission of curing spinal cord injury through innovative research and improving quality of life for individuals and families impacted by paralysis.

John’s story highlights the extraordinary power of the human spirit, shows the power of community during the healing process and demonstrates the great satisfaction and impact of giving back. Listen to this episode at the links attached, and #ShareItForward by leaving a review!
